How Do You Schedule Your Tech Team?

On our first podcast I mentioned how 2 churches here in Dallas use the web for communication and scheduling with their tech team. The churches I mentioned are Lake Pointe and Fellowship Dallas. How do you do this at your church?

On The Lot 2

I was pleased with the results of last night’s episode of “On the Lot“. I think America got it right and am excited about the remaining directors.

BONUS:

This just in from Jake Ludington: Roxio is well known for making video tools. Their Easy Media Creator suite is a popular solution for editing movies, photos and audio. For some things, like quickly preparing a file for upload to YouTube, a full-fledged editing suite can be more software than you need. Enter Roxio Buzz – an editing tool for quickly cliping a portion of video for upload to YouTube, GoFish, Silverlight, or all three at the same time. The free version of the software supports WMV, AVI, MPEG-1, and QuickTime MOV files. There are additional licensing fees associated with MPEG-2 and various implementations of MPEG-4, like 3gp and h.264, which is why these aren’t included as part of the free solution. For photo slideshows, you can add pan and zoom motion, apply transitions and layer a soundtrack underneath images prior to uploading. While Roxio Buzz does not replace traditional editing tools, it is a nice tool for people who prefer a quick solution for getting their favorite clips from a hard drive to the Web for sharing. It’s worth noting that Roxio Easy Media Creator users should refrain from installing Roxio Buzz at this point because the two have compatibility issues. [Windows 2000/XP/Vista $0.00]

On The Lot

On the Lot

It was a little bit of a sad Monday night with no “Heroes” and no “24″, but Fox came through with a good show to give me something to look forward to throughout the summer. The TV show “On the Lot” is something I’ve been looking forward to ever since they started promoting it.

I’ll admit, I like “American Idol” and even though my boy, Blake, didn’t win, I still enjoy watching the show and the interaction of the at-home audience. I’ve often wished there was a show like “American Idol”, but for filmmakers – now there is and again, you get to have a hand in the outcome by voting from home.

This week’s assignment was to create a 1 minute comedy. I think there a few really talented directors and look forward to seeing what’s to come. What did you think?

I wish you all a great Memorial Day. I hope you have time to spend with your family. I thank God for our military and the many sacrifices that have been made for our freedom.

FREE Spoken Word Video

I just landed and am back home in good ‘ol Dallas. I had a great time at the Moody Pastors’ Conference. Over 95% of the men in my classes were senior pastors. It was an honor and joy to share with them and encourage them in the great work they do for the Kingdom.

EXTRA:

SermonSpice is offering a FREE download of the spoken word video, “The Woman at the Well“. I think it’s very cool and usable in a worship service. Check it out HERE.

Blue Chicago

Blue Man Chicago

Well, I didn’t get to go to the afternoon Blue Man Group because it was sold out, but I did get tickets to the 8pm show and went with my friends from Worship Films and MediaShout – it was awesome. I had seen them in Las Vegas, but was thrilled to see them again (and tickets were one 4th of the cost of Vegas). If you ever get a chance to see the Blue Man Group live, you’ve got to go. It’s the most multi-sensory experience I’ve ever been apart of.

Memorial Day Media

This Sunday is the Sunday before Memorial Day. This year there have been some great new videos produced. I believe my favorite is “For Freedom” by eleven72 – great use of stills, very classy and very well done.

To check out all the many media resources available to you this Memorial Day, check out SermonSpice, The Shoutable Store and WorshipHouse Media.

PERSONAL:
Shhhh! This is on the down low. Wednesday afternoon they give you free time at the conference. I might be going with Jesse from WorshipFilms and Mona and Jann from MediaShout to see the Blue Man Group. I hope it works out!

The Creative Planning Team

Did I mention I love Chicago? I love getting out and walking the streets in Chicago. Yesterday after arriving and dropping off my luggage, I went on a stroll and found a local Mexican restaurant (no surprise for those of you that know me). There was only 1 other person in the place – a pastor attending the conference at Moody. I asked him if I could join him. This man of God has been pastor of his church for 23 years – WOW! I was blessed to just meet him and talk with him. Today I begin teaching my workshops!

EXTRA:

One thing I’m pretty big on is the use of a creative planning team. I don’t think worship planning should be done alone. I really believe in synergy. This was what my article for Monday Morning Insight last week was on. Check it out HERE.

The Windy City

Today I fly to Chicago. I love Chicago! This will be my fourth year to speak at the Moody Bible Pastors’ Conference, which is a highlight of my year. I receive far more than I give at this conference. I always leave encouraged and recharged after a week of powerful preaching and worship. If you’re going to be there, swing by one of my workshops and say “hello”.

Your Input

One of my greatest joys is guest teaching at colleges and seminaries. I’ve actually worked with a few schools to help them decide on curriculum and how to structure and plan their degree programs for media ministry. I’ve been asked to help a school plan for their new degree in Mass Communication. I’m familiar with what Regent and Biola (2 schools that I respect and keep my eye on) are doing. I’m curious as to what some of you would suggest. Feel free to chime in and I’ll pass on your suggestions.

PRODUCERS:

If you have something that you’ve produced for Father’s Day, send it my way. I’m speaking at the Moody Bible Pastors’ Conference next week and would love to show it in my classes.

EXTRA:

I encourage you to check out the Catch Fire blog from my friends at eleven72.
